Yukon PNP Community Pilot Program
Program Introduction
The Yukon Community Pilot (YCP) is a specialized program under the Yukon Nominee Program, aiming to create a streamlined process for foreign workers to settle and work in Canada without needing a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA)
Eligibility for YCP
To be eligible for a 2-year open work permit under YCP, individuals must have a permanent residence nomination from Yukon. This unique program seeks to stimulate the economies of several Yukon communities, including Whitehorse, Watson Lake, Dawson City, Haines Junction, Carmacks, and Carcross
Work Permit Features:
Under this program, participants can work with up to 3 different employers in a participating Yukon community and the permit is valid for 2 years. Notably, no LMIA is required, making the process more accessible for foreign workers
Work Permit Requirements:
The requirements for obtaining the work permit include having 2 or 3 job offers from employers in a Yukon community, a supporting letter from the Government of Yukon, and meeting general work permit prerequisites. Additionally, relevant work experience and meeting specific job offer criteria are essential prerequisites
Yukon Provincial Nominee Program (YPNP) Nomination
The application for the YPNP nomination can be made through the Skilled Worker Program or the Critical Impact Worker Program, each with its respective eligibility criteria based on the nature of the occupation
Processing Time and YCP Alternative
While the processing time for permanent residency through the YPNP nomination is approximately 12-18 months, the YCP provides an alternative route, allowing applicants to apply for an open work permit after nomination and permanent residency filing, enabling them to arrive in Canada within 2-3 months.
